Catch22 positive message campaign

The Young People’s Benchmarking Forum (YPBMF) steering group are running a positive message campaign for care leavers on photo sharing website flickr.

The aim is to collect 1,000 creative photos of positive messages from care leavers across the country.


The flickr project is the second stage of the ‘positive message’ campaign. A balloon release took place during Care Leaver’s week in 2011 when 12 local authorities took part releasing up to 100 biodegradable balloons with positive messages attached to them. The Young People’s Benchmarking Forum is calling for care leavers to:

  • think of a positive message about their achievements, aspirations or goals
  • find a creative way of taking a picture of that message while respecting everyone’s right to privacy (no pictures of names or faces)
  • send the photo/s to


Photos will be monitored and pictures that do not respect everyone’s right to privacy, including revealing names or faces, will not be accepted. Photos could be of a painting or drawing, written messages or famous landmarks for example.


Photos will be collated and displayed on flickr by a member of the YPBMF but will not be visible to the public until Care Leaver’s Week in October 2012.


Care leavers across the country will be encouraged to send in pictures through children-in-care councils, young people and participation workers from National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum and Local Authorities.
