On 27th March the Ministry of Justice published its long-awaited
Review of the Probation Service - Punishment
and Reform: Effective Probation Services [download]. This was accompanied
by a review of community sentences - Punishment and Reform: Effective Community Sentences [download].
Clinks has now posted an online Briefing for each review,
summarising the key elements of the proposed reforms, at: http://www.clinks.org/publications/briefings.
The consultation period for both reviews will run until 22nd
June. During that period, Clinks will be undertaking a survey and hosting three
roundtable events. These roundtable events will gather detailed feedback from
the VCS for inclusion in Clinks' response to the consultation.
Clinks' Policy and Local Development Teams would therefore
like to hear from organisations working alongside the Probation Service that
are interested in attending one of these events. To express interest in
attending the London event (afternoon of 24th
April) please contact Katie O'Donoghue; for the Manchester event contact Nathan Dick; for our Exeter / Taunton event contact Louise Clark.
Places are strictly limited to one person per organisation
and are only open to VCS organisations. Clinks will be sending further
information about the events as soon as possible to everyone who has expressed
interest, with confirmed dates and venues.
Please also send any written feedback that you would like us
to take account of in preparing Clinks' consultation response, to Clare Hayes.
