Catch22 hosted a lively event at Liberal Democrat party conference 'Digit-all? Young people and digital exclusion' with guest speaker Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg.
The event explored young people’s access to the internet and the need to support all young people to get online so they can access key services and participate fully in society.
Speaking alongside Nick Clegg was 17 year old Carl Evans from Catch22's Sefton Youth Inclusion Programme, Pat Thompson, Catch22 Assistant Director of Communications and Dr Grant Blank from the Oxford Internet Institute at Oxford University who talked through his research on young people and barriers to accessing the internet. The event was chaired by Linda Jack, chair of the Liberal Democrat Working Group on Youth policy.
The room was packed out and the audience included councillors, young people, representatives from other youth organisations, journalists and businesses.
Next week the Catch22 team are off to Labour party conference in Manchester so watch this space for more details. We’ll be joined by young people from Catch22 Heywood Young Spirit who will be taking their concerns directly to politicians.
